Synopsis
“A true story inspired by ordinary people who, without intending to, became heroes.”
In 1992, at the height of the Bosnian War, a group of Spanish ham radio operators were carrying on their usual late-night conversations when an unfamiliar voice broke through the signal.
It was a man trapped in Sarajevo who, in broken Spanish, begged them to find his wife — now a refugee in Spain — to deliver a simple message: he was still alive.
What began as an unexpected favor soon became a clandestine communications network connecting hundreds of families torn apart by war.
With no official support or government backing, these radio amateurs — who barely spoke Bosnian — organized themselves to send and receive messages, improvising a fragile bridge between two worlds: one of peace, the other of chaos and destruction.
As bombs rained down on Sarajevo, the friendship between the Spaniards and the Bosnian operator deepened. But war takes its toll. Exhausted and in constant danger, the man in Sarajevo needed to escape. And so began a perilous operation that would give him a chance at freedom.
Through a narrative that weaves together past and present, A Voice Across the Night is a moving story of humanity, courage, and solidarity.
